About the Supreme Court

As the highest judicial authority within the system of courts of general jurisdiction and commercial courts, the Supreme Court exercises a number of institutional powers aimed at ensuring the effective functioning of the judiciary.

In particular, the Court:

• Exercises judicial supervision over the activities of lower courts within the system of courts of general jurisdiction and commercial courts.
• Studies and analyzes judicial statistics.
• Generalizes judicial practice in order to identify issues arising in the application of legislation.
• Prepares proposals aimed at improving legislation and judicial procedures.
• Promotes the consistent and uniform application of laws by courts throughout the Russian Federation.
  
  

Through these activities, the Supreme Court contributes to the development of judicial practice and the improvement of the legal system.

In addition to its adjudicative functions, the Court performs analytical and organizational tasks that support the stability and coherence of the judicial system.
