The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation marked its 95th anniversary. A formal meeting attended by the President of the Russian Federation was held on this occasion. In his congratulatory speech, President Vladimir Putin stressed the role of the Supreme Court in the unification of judicial practice and in carrying out key judicial reforms. The President noted that an independent, modern and effective judiciary is a precondition for the development of a democratic state, an active civil society and a strong economy and expressed his confidence that the right of citizens to court protection, guaranteed by the Constitution, will be fully ensured.
In his turn, Chief Justice Vyacheslav Lebedev pointed out that the scientific potential, the gained experience, the professionalism and responsibility of judges and court staff will contribute to the effective protection of human rights and basic freedoms, of public and state interests.
A meeting of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation took place.
In particular, the Session decided to introduce a number of draft laws to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, pertaining to the improvement of conciliation procedures.
